At Spring Mountain State School, our camping program provides students with valuable opportunities to build confidence, teamwork and independence as they progress through their primary years. Camps begin in Year 4 and continue annually, with each experience designed to support students' social, emotional and academic development.
Year 4 Camp – Sunshine Coast Recreation Centre (Term 4, Week 9)
Year 4 students attend the Sunshine Coast Recreation Centre at Currimundi, participating in an adventure-based program run by Queensland Government instructors. Activities focus on teamwork, cooperation and group problem-solving, with students enjoying challenges such as beach games, team tasks, archery tag, rock climbing and body-boarding.
Year 5 Camp – Camp Goodenough, Bilambil NSW (Term 3, Week 4)
Year 5 students travel to Camp Goodenough, an outdoor education centre specialising in programs that build communication, confidence and leadership. The camp offers a mix of high-challenge and team-based activities, including high ropes, team pursuits, indoor climbing and the giant swing.
Year 6 Camp – Emu Gully Adventure Education Centre (Term 1, Week 4)
Year 6 students begin their year with a leadership camp at Emu Gully in Helidon. The program links directly with Semester 1 learning units and focuses on resilience, teamwork and leadership. Students take part in historical adventure challenges such as the Siege of Tobruk, Kokoda Track, tunnel courses and water activities.
We also use observations from this camp to help us identify students’ strengths and qualities, which will assist in determining the student leadership positions for the year.
