At Spring Mountain State School, we believe the performing arts play a vital role in fostering creativity, self-expression, and a sense of belonging. Our music and dance programs are a joyful celebration of talent and teamwork, helping every child shine on and off the stage.
Classroom Music
All students from Prep to Year 6 participate in weekly music lessons with our specialist music teacher, following the Australian Curriculum. Through singing, playing instruments, and exploring music from diverse cultures, students develop a lifelong love and appreciation for music.
Choir Program
Our thriving choir program includes both a Junior Choir (Years 1–3) and a Senior Choir (Years 4–6). Choir members rehearse before school and enjoy performing regularly at school parades, local festivals, competitions, and our annual Arts Night. The Senior Choir also has the opportunity to attend an exciting excursion each year.
Dance Program
Dance is another highlight of our performing arts offering. We have three enthusiastic dance teams — Junior (Years 1–2), Intermediate (Years 3–4), and Senior (Years 5–6). Each team rehearses before school and during lunchtime, showcasing their talents at school events, community performances, and our end-of-year Arts Night.
Instrumental Music
Our Instrumental Music Program begins with recruitment in Year 3. A wide variety of instruments from the Woodwind, Brass and Percussion families are taught at Spring Mountain SS.
Parents complete an EOI in Term 3 of Year 3. A selection process is used to determine a student’s suitability for inclusion in the program. Selected students from Year 4 onwards learn an instrument in small group lessons. Students then have the chance to perform as part of our Junior Band and Senior Band, gaining valuable ensemble experience and performance confidence.
