In addition to our weekly PE/Health  we also offer multiple opportunities for our SMSS students to engage in Extra- Curricular sport. This includes providing a pathway to represen SMSS at district, regional and state level for the 'Big 3' (Swimming, Cross Country & Track & Field) and Team Sports

GALA Sport:

At SMSS, our vision is clear, we celebrate and embrace the whole child.  For this reason we aim to involve all eligible GALA students in team sports during their schooling life. We believe that team sports teach our students resilience, team work, emotional regulation, patience and discipline. GALA sport provides students in Year 5, & 6 with an invaluable opportunity play on a team and learn these skills. GALA sport is a social interschool competition against schools within our district and occurs annually in Term 2 and Term 3.

In Term 2, students participate in Soccer or Netball.

In Term 3, students participate in Touch Football, Basketball, or AFL.

We expect all students in Year 5, & 6 at SMSS to participate in GALA sport. Whether they are experienced or beginners as it is key to building citizens of the future. More information about GALA sport is provided in the lead up to GALA training and event days.

Extra-Curricular Sport:

During the year Spring Mountain State School participates in AFL Q schools Cup and Met West Indigenous games days. These events require students to trial for the team and attend training sessions in the lead up to event days. More information about these events will be sent out in the lead up to their anticipated start date.

After School Sport:

Throughout the year we aim to provide students with access to sport outside of school hours on our school grounds. This happens through our relationships with Queensland Netball, AFL Queensland, Queensland Cricket and Queensland Football. Detailed information, costing, times, and dates for these programs will be provided in the lead up to their start date.

Please Note: These programs are tentatively booked and may be subject to changes or cancelations.
