Representative sport is an integral part Queensland Representative School Sport Program, and provides opportunities for students who show aptitude and talent in their respective sport/s. The representative school sport program progresses through different levels, starting at district level (SMSS is a part of the Central Comets District) and then progressing to regional (Metropolitan West), state and national levels.
The Representative School Sport Program is open to students turning 10, 11 or 12 years by the 31 December in the year of competition.

Swimming
Our school swimming trials for students wishing to be considered for the Central Comets swimming trials are held annually in Week 2 of the new school year. Trials are held at Waterworx, Springfield from 3:30 – 4:30pm, together with students from local schools on a nominated day. Students can only trial if they are able to swim 50m continuously in their stroke/s and in less than 1 minute. If your child makes the qualifying time/s for an event/s, they will be selected in the school swimming team, which will compete in the District Swimming Trials at Ipswich Grammar School Pool. Please contact SMSS if your child swims competitively (ie club swimmer) and wish to submit times for 100m & 200m Freestyle and Individual Medley events.
Cross Country
Students that come in the top five in our School Cross Country are considered for nomination to our school Cross Country team which will be competing in the District Cross Country Trial at Grammar Arms Park - Brassall.
Track & Field
Students that come first in an event at our Sports Day (100m, 200m, HIgh Jump & Shot put) for the age groups 10 years old, 11 years old and 12 year olds are considered for nomination to our School Track and Field team which will be competing in the District Track & Field Event at UQ St Lucia.
A second nomination may be considered by the organising committee provided the athlete has met the District qualifying standards (see below).
Provision remains for ALL students who have equalled or bettered the Met West Qualifying standards to be nominated. This would equate to three or more of our students equalling the Met West standards.
*High Jump – Athletes nominated for High Jump, regardless of their place at our school Sports Days, must be able to clear the starting height and preferably the first rise of 5cm.
For events that we do not run on our Sports day (800m, 1500m, Discus, Long Jump) parents are welcome to email SMSS_PE@springmountainss.eq.edu.au through Little Athletics times for consideration towards nominations.
The district trials are held at UQ St Lucia.
The wellbeing of our students is always our highest priority. We aim to create positive and memorable experiences for every participant.
